She / Her / Hers

Courtney Guenther earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010. She taught Anatomy and Physiology at both a technical college and a liberal arts university in South Carolina for eleven years. Her academic research interests include examining how yoga, mindfulness, and meditation can help college students cope with stress, and she has published peer-reviewed articles with students and faculty colleagues on this topic.

She received her Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) certification from Yoga Alliance in 2021 and has been teaching yoga to college students and community members for the past three years. She also completed an online 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course in 2021 and attended the Accessible Yoga Conference and two summits through the Mind and Life Institute and Healthy Minds Innovations.

Her yoga and mindfulness teaching focuses on helping learners thrive through inclusive practices that offer opportunities to connect mind and body.

Yoga Benefits:

In many cultures, yoga is seen as much more than a part of a healthy exercise routine. Yoga and yogic breathing may improve stress levels, sleep, range of motion, and balance (Weiss, 2022).

The practice of Yoga over the last 2,000 years focuses on the mind, body and spirit. Yoga may also have a positive impact on brain function (Gothe et al., 2019).

Yoga can benefit the mental health crisis, especially those experiencing loneliness, anxiety, and/or depression. Mindfulness and meditation practices may promote well-being and flourishing (Dahl et al, 2020).
